Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) are registered nurses who have completed extra training and academic qualification to be able to clinically assess, diagnose, refer and treat patients who present with undiagnosed or undifferentiated problems.
ANPs are highly-trained health professionals that can undertake complex reviews of patients, similar to GPs. They can assess symptoms and build a picture of a patient’s condition, treat minor health problems, infections, minor injuries and prescribe medication where necessary.
Our ANPs work across our practices to help with urgent and same-day health concerns. Often, you will speak or see an ANP instead of a GP as they may be able to provide you with the most appropriate care to meet you needs. Our ANPs can:
complete complex patient assessments of their condition
help diagnose acute and chronic conditions
provide treatment for your minor illnesses
prescribe and review medication to help with your condition
make treatment decisions, including referring patients for any necessary follow-up consultations or referrals
Our ANPs help patients with their urgent health concerns, therefore see and speak to patients for same-day appointments. If you feel you have an urgent health concern which is affecting your ability to carry out your normal activities, you can contact your GP practice and request a same-day appointment. The best time to do this is from 8am when your practice opens.
The care-navigators will ask you a series of questions to about your concern before making your appointment. This step is necessary so that they can ensure you are getting the most appropriate care to meet your needs.
ANPs do not typically have routine appointments (ones you can book in advance) and they help patients with more urgent medical concerns.
